Win two pairs of tickets to the Wilderness Festival

Ah, music and food. Two of my favourite things.  As most of my friends (and understanding husband) would probably assert, if I’m not saying “I’m hungry”, I’m usually saying “oh, I love this song”. A lot.

So, music and food together is a very wonderful thing.  The folks running The Wilderness Festival obviously agree as, in addition to their lineup of lots of very nice music acts, they have also got some fabulous chefs putting on some banquets. So, along with your Anthony and the Johnsons, Mercury Rev, Laura Marling and Daniel Johnston, you also get a whole heap of Skye Gyngell and Sam and Sam Clark of Moro cooking up an absolute feast.

As Wilderness put it, the festival is “a celebration of the arts and outdoors in the wilds of England” – namely, the very pretty looking Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire. And it looks like it is going to be very lovely and a whole heap of fun.

The festival is taking place on the weekend of 12th-14th August, and the people at the festival have kindly given me two pairs of tickets to give away to readers of this blog.

So, if you fancy eating a Spanish feast whilst listening to some lovely folk music, leave me a comment on this post telling me what your ideal festival food is and why, and I might just give you a pair of tickets.  Closing date is Monday 1st August.

You can find out more details about the festival here: http://www.wildernessfestival.com

Anyway, I’m hungry and also want to listen to some music, so over and out.

EDIT: the competition is now closed.  I will be announcing winners later today!

    Got to be falafel!

I agree that not just food and music go hand in hand, but food and arts in general… Good food fuels creativity.

My favourite part of festival food is the smorgasbord of flavours – getting to taste fresh food of many varities all in one place. Paella, falafels, pies, roti… it’s all wonderful to have a variety of food, and the luxury to graze all day long.

  3. Carly says:

definitely a nice chicken and chorizo paella to warm me up with LOTS of tabasco to blast the hangover. yum.

A delicious paella whilst basking in the festival sun. For pudding? A siesta in the shade.

I would choose roast belly of pork,
it would please the most discerning knife and fork,
    a perfect Wilderness banquet bite,
a foodie’s encounter of utter delight.

One of my favourite things to find at a festival is veggie South Indian food – I’m not veggie but a stall selling piping hot veggie pakoras with some spicy chilli or lime pickle, on a paper tray, is perfect for a sunny day at a festi!

Although, let’s be honest, the other greatest thing about a festival is the excuse to have beer for breakfast (I promise I wouldn’t do it at home!)!! So maybe I’d be more honest if I said my favourite festival food is a bacon buttie (bacon cooked on a mini bbq outside the tent, of course!!) and a can of beer!

I’ve missed out on my beer and bacon buttie weekend this year as my favourite local festival was cancelled, and another local favourite was on my wedding weekend! Not complaining though – I did get to marry my lovely husband, after all! :)

Decisions, decisions so many it’s difficult to chose one. Should I choose the Goan fish curry, the gourmet burger…….

No I will go with the tray of Nachos on a bed of refried beans topped with salsa, sour cream, cheese and jalapenos the perfect sharing dish for a group. Brings back many happy memories of past festivals.

  8. Chris Sparey says:

The ultimate breakfast fry-up for the morning start. Gets you through the day.

Favourite festival food? Having graduated from greasy overpriced burgers at my first few festivals, I’ve been amazed and delighted at how good festival food has been over the last few years (Green Man, Electric Picnic etc).

I remember being really blown away (and a little smug) by a bargainous and supertasty (south?) Indian veggie curry/rice/poppadum combo for £6 while my buddies were queueing for an hour for pieminster! Forgetting my veggie-esque stylings, the next day I tucked into a massive rotisserie chicken and herby roasties – immense. (Shared of course, did you think I’d eaten a whole chicken myself?!)

But my best ever festival food moment has to be breakfast at T in the park – haggis neeps and tatties first thing in the morning (well 11am when the arena opened). When we declined the accompanying dram, the “chef” said: “Well, it’s been paid for now” and promptly necked a double shot of whisky! Brilliant.

To whoever wins the Wilderness tickets, enjoy yourselves, looks to be a brilliant festival and the Michelin chefs should keep your tummies happy :)

Almost forgot to say my ideal festival food! After looking at the wilderness website, I think that Saturday evening grazing banquet sounds amazing – such a tasty and varied selection… I think you’d be well fed after all that PLUS you get to eat with your friends, no silly splitting up for different queues and veggies/meateaters both pleased by the lamb/aubergine options. Delish – or should I say “ideal”!

  10. Rachel says:

Frozen yoghurt! Nothing like a huge tub (or two!) of cold, refreshing strawberry yoghurt in the middle of a sweltering festival.
